An Affiliate Marketer from the Ground Up

Not surprisingly, WAHMs are the single largest growing demographic in the eCommerce world. I thought this would be a good time to offer a great FREE eBook on the topic. I've posted here a couple of times on SiteSell SIte Build It!. My (first) site is still being developed, but since it requires so much in the way of specialized graphics, and I'm not extremely well versed in that area, I suspect it will be the winter when I'm laid off from my horrible 'real' job before I have a site that is ready to be published (and get me working from home full time :)). There's no additional domain registering, no expensive keyword research tool to subscribe to, no DreamWeaver or any other HTML package (unless you want to use it), there's none of the many extra expenses that they don't tell you about when you sign up with a hosting company. I recently posted about Squidoo. I've been actively investigating everything I can about all things Squidoo in the last week or so.

I can't believe I somewhat overlooked the major possibilities that Squidoo has to offer. I've also seen some of the money that many people have been able to generate. I only wish I would have went into it full force several months back when I first took a look at Squidoo, but at least I have been lately.

The point of this post is, besides all of the obvious money making techniques available with Squidoo, one thing that I hadn't thought of is 'lens-flipping'. You can probably guess by the name that 'lens-flipping' is simply creating a lens (free Squidoo page), and then selling it off.

This is completely okay with Squidoo, there's nothing underhanded or deceitful, and because of the fact that it's so easy to create lenses, and there's no limit to the amount of lenses that you can set up, the money making potential is limitless.

As I mentioned before in my other post, and here, I didn't start actively using Squidoo until just recently, therefore I've only set up (2) lenses at this point, but that was just while I was doing other things, putting only a very small amount of time into it. I can only imagine how many lenses a person could do per day if they were to get into it seriously.

I ran across lenses for sale via the Squidoo site. One of the owners of the site that builds custom lenses for sale, Tiffany Dow, has a great resource available on her techniques for generating money by flipping lenses.

I won't drag this out any longer, go take a look at her fantastic information. It's available here. If you've got a little extra time on your hands, there's a lot of money to be made using Squidoo. This is but just one...a very good one though it is.

You've probably all heard of Squidoo by now. If you haven't I can guarantee you that you will, eventually.

Regardless, if you haven't set up a lens yet (Squidoo page), then you should get started now. I first signed up back in Feb. '08, and like so many other potential Squid people, did nothing. I kinda messed around with it, but never really got anything together worth publishing.

I've been taking another closer look at the whole concept and have new respect for the idea. I also have seen some of the money that others have been making, so I'm sure that didn't hurt . There are some making an income that puts my 'real' job to shame.

One of the great things too...it's all free!! This is the brainchild of Seth Godin, a true genius in most things Internet, especially making money, and he's hit it big here. What I really like about Squidoo is that it's not only fun, potentially very profitable, but most all of the pages are very entertaining, useful and/or educational.

After I started really checking things out, I found many, many pages that have been very beneficial in my endeavors to make money online. I just started reading more about Squidoo about a week ago, and have only set up (1) lens so far, but I'm excited about it, and I will be continuing with more.

I've never been a good writer, or even creative, but I think that anyone can come up with some ideas for lenses, even though I am struggling a bit. It's hard to believe that some of these people have HUNDREDS of lenses going, and they're still adding more.

I believe if you keep at something you will eventually get there. That's my plan with Squidoo. I don't have a lot of time to put into it, but I will do it when I can. It would be great if I could quit my job at the end of the year, but I think relying just on Squidoo might be pushing it a bit. I do have other irons in the fire also. Of course if someone was very creative, I'd bet in (6) months time they'd be able to get a full time income from Squidoo alone. That would be an exceptional case though to be sure.

I should mention that income is generated by sharing in the Google AdSense profits of Squidoo as a whole, and also any affiliate products that you chooses to offer. You would, of course, get the entire affiliate commissions. The Google profits are divided among the many page owners, the more higher-ranked pages you have, the more of the profits that you'll receive.

So head over to Squidoo.com and get started making a lens, it can be about just about anything that you can think of (almost). Gotta hobby ? Make it a Squidoo lens. Know about real estate investing ? Another lens. Are you a great cook with a head full of recipes ? Maybe several lenses there. You get the idea I'm sure.

Also, check out the different groups, the top 100 and other lists for your specific interests, or just for new ideas. There are so many pages there that I'm sure that you'll be able to find countless resources. There's even lenses for getting ideas for lenses, not to mention everything that you could ever want to know about using Squidoo.

Lastly, I ran across this great resource for Squidoo. There are many swearing by it, and since you're just starting out, there won't be anything here that isn't very useful. Click here to check it out.

I last posted on an open source (free) software package called KompoZer. It's a great program, especially for free. It does have some bugs, mostly in the CSS area, but well worth the 'price'.

Well, if you're doing your own websites you'll also have the need for a good graphics program. The one I'm using, and highly recommend is GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It's a really complete, fantastic piece of software. (Actually it's Gimp 2 now).

I've seen comparisons of it to PhotoShop. I don't use PS so I can't really comment on the similarities, but I do know that it does everything I need in a graphics program and much, much more. I can't believe that any 'typical' user would need anything else. Whether it's as powerful as PhotoShop, I don't know, but I do know that if it was a commerical release, it wouldn't be cheap.

At this writing, a new version (2.4.7) has just been released. I'm still using (2.4.6) and I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever. The only 'issue' I had was when I closed a docked window before the main program window, and it took a while to figure out how to get it back open. Obviously not a bug, just required a little effort on my part.

Go into 'File - Dialogs - Create New Dock - Layers, Channels & Paths' if/when it happens to you.

Also, there's many plugins available for Gimp. I've only downloaded and installed GAP (Gimp Animation Package) so far, but I've yet to use it so I can't comment on it.

So, you've got KompoZer to do your sites and Gimp for your graphics needs. That's a big part of everything you'll need to get into website development for zero cost. I know some people swear by DreamWeaver and PhotoShop, and if I had more money I might just use both, but it's nice to know that there's other, free options available that will do the jobs at hand, and due them nicely.
