Don’t Alienate Your Readers

Well, I’ve just been called back to work after a layoff of over (4) months. I haven’t posted in a couple of days due to the sudden lack of free time. I do plan on keeping the blog updated as often as possible though.

I had an idea for this post after a recent event. It’s nothing major, but something I know impacted me (a little), and I suspect others would at least remember it as well.

I was reading some posts at a well known Affiliate Marketer’s site a couple of weeks ago, and I had a question. It wasn’t anything that required much thought to answer. I also took into consideration that the guy probably gets a lot of emails daily. I did however, think that I would eventually get some kind of response. Even an auto-responder email….something. I never received any response.

As I mentioned, it’s been a couple of weeks now and I don’t imagine getting a reply at this point. It’s not really a big deal, the question wasn’t something that I couldn’t go find the answer to a thousand other places, and the truth is, it wasn’t even that important to begin with. I guess I somewhat wanted to see if the guy would even answer me. I guess that says a lot about him.

I read something about him, in which he stated he only spent a small amount of time on his blog daily. I realize he’s got several other sites, and is probably very busy, as I mentioned. However, this is the point I would like to make…you’re obviously wanting to attract readers (and keep them). Do your best to treat people as you would want to be treated. I guess that’s why that ‘Golden Rule’ thing is so popular.

With all the blogs around the Internet, and his being only mediocre anyway, I’ll automatically go somewhere else when I’m looking for information relating to the subject at hand.

Will it make a difference to his bottom line ? Nope….will it change the amount of success he achieves ? I don’t see how. What I can say though, if that’s ‘business as usual’ for him, he will get a reputation for being an arrogant a**hole (quite a few don’t like him already), so why make things harder than they have to be ?

I like to think that even if I was making thousands a day, I could still manage to spend (20) minutes answering a few emails. Even if it was just to say ‘thanks for reading, I’m so busy I don’t have time for an in-depth response right now’. Maybe even an auto-response untilI got caught up a bit.

Maybe I’m making more out of this than it should be, but I can guarantee I won’t ever lose readers because I’m ‘too important’ to answer any question someone may have.
