When I started my blog at JeffreyNorris.com, as most people are, I was somewhat anxious to get some readers. I read everything I could find in order to speed things up as much as possible to acquire visitors.

After absorbing everything I could regarding traffic generation, I came to the conclusion, that although there are things that can be done to help, there's not a complete, reliable, long-term substitution for the formula of having an SEO optimized site that has excellent content, and one that is updated regularly.

I've read of some individuals using syndicated feeds to boost their content (autoblogs). Obviously, it may add the physical text to your site, but you will be penalized by the search engines for having duplicate content (and you may possibly be receiving a nasty email, if the content is copywrited).

Others will copy content from other sites, and run it through one of the many programs available that will rearrange the text to appear as original content to the search engines. This does work, to some extent, but if you actually want to attract and KEEP readers, I would highly suggest against this. The final result that is produced by such programs is usually very poor indeed, and not something any self-respecting Webmaster
would want on his/her site. Often times, a Webmaster utilizing this, or an autoblog type of content generating method, is hoping for an artificially-boosted abundance of traffic, in hopes that he/she may benefit financially from ads placed on the site. These could be pay-per-click ads, or pay per impressions.
Usually the traffic cannot be sustained for an extended period, and the monetary gains, if realized, are not great, nor long term.

I mentioned the 'autoblog' method previously, and although this method may get you listed in some search engines for a short time, it will be short-lived also, and only serves to hurt your site in the long term.

Google, and the other major search engines go to great lengths to evaluate, index, and rank Web sites/pages. The algorithms that the search engines use, are constantly being refined and updated, and they may not seem to be friendly to your site while you struggle along with little valuable content, duplicate content or a site that is not SEO optimized.

However, when you do the work necessary to have a top notch Website, with excellent, original content, you will be rewarded with recognition from the search engines that others are constantly trying to 'trick' into ranking them well.

Patience is to be considered a virtue in the pursuit of high page rank among the multitudes of sites that contend for top placement.
