I was thinking about how many people are blogging these days, and the fact that many are doing it in hopes to be able to generate an income stream, and eventually, hopefully to be able to quit their regular day jobs.

Obviously it's a very enticing thought. Just to keep things in perspective though, just remember, even though

you may possibly get to that goal, never forget that you're never in isolation not having to answer to anyone. No man is an island definitely applies here. You may have the anonymity and privacy that blogging can offer, but you're never really more than a few milliseconds removed from the 'bosses', the readers.

It's true, if you're blogging and making money doing so, enough to live on in fact, you are your own boss. However, and this is a big one...never forget that when you're receiving those checks in the mail, or the depositis to your PayPal account, or whatever other method you use, there is another entity sending those funds. Someone is paying for something you're doing, and obviously doing right too, if you're making enough to live on. Just don't ever think that you are completely free to do whatever you want, without considering the outcome.

If you've got a successful blog going, maybe doing reviews of say... musical products (I play guitar, so), and you think, 'well I'm the man, I've got the bucks rolling in, I think I'm going to change the topic of my blog to 'The Reasons I hate Cats''. Well, I doubt anyone is really that dumb, but it's just to make a point, obviously. The point being...I can just about guarantee that you'll suddenly realize who is really the boss. Although you may decide most of the things that maybe you couldn't before working for someone else, you are still responsible for providing the content that people will pay for. (You might also figure out that there are a LOT of cat lovers out there).

I would really hope that this post is a no-brainer post for most, but I can tell you that many individuals, and companies alike (some BIG ones) have, at times, lost site of this basic concept. I guess it could almost be said that you're only as good as your last post. Almost...I don't think it's quite that delicate of a situation, but try getting lazy in your content, or just changing it radically, and you may get a rude awakening. Remember what got you to where you are, and although it's great, even necessary to evolve, just make sure you 'okay it with your bosses'.
